Marie Curie Daffodil Walk - Melrose

Marie Curie Cancer Care was delighted to be working with John Henderson of Walking Support for the 18th Annual Borders Field of Hope Walk that took place on Sunday 1st April 2012 at the Borders General Hospital in Melrose.

Walking Support with help from the Melrose Path Group introduced a new extended walk to the event, thereby giving supporters the following choice;

NEW 10K route returning along the Field of Hope
The 10K route through beautiful countryside past Abbotsford & Lowood, back to Melrose and along the Field of Hope to return to the start/finish at Borders General Hospital. This is route number 5 from the "Path Around Melrose" publication.

There are 23 Marie Curie Nurses working in our local fundraising area, which covers The Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway. Last year, these nurses provided hands on nursing care to 190 local patients and their families, over just short of 14,000 hours. It costs the charity £20 per hour to provide this service, so you can see why we cannot relax with our fundraising and why we appreciate your help and support so much. For every walker who raises £20 in sponsorship, we can ensure that another hour of care is provided locally. £180 will provide one full 9 hour shift for a Marie Curie Nurse. Marie Curie Nurses provide care to patients with cancer and all terminal illnesses and as a charity Marie Curie Cancer Care would like to give more people the choice to spend their final days in their own homes. Please help us to ensure that we raise the money to continue to provide this invaluable service in our local communities.
